UNKLE’s The Road Albums Return in Beyond The Road

The Road Part I and The Road Part II / Lost Highway by UNKLE are being revisited as part of a new presentation of Beyond The Road at Polygon Portal in Soho, London.

Matthew Puffett contributed to the creation of both albums, spending several years co-writing and helping shape the music alongside James Lavelle and Jack Leonard, with Cameron Craig handling the mixing. The project marked an important period in Puffett’s musical development, bringing together his production work with UNKLE’s ambitious, collaborative approach to the albums.

Originally staged at London’s Saatchi Gallery in 2019, Beyond The Road transformed the multitrack recordings from The Road Part I and The Road Part II / Lost Highway into a three-dimensional, site-specific installation — effectively creating an album that could be walked through. The exhibition subsequently travelled to Seoul.

The latest presentation at Polygon Portal reimagines Beyond The Road as a single-room listening experience, featuring an exclusive unreleased audio mix created for the original exhibition.
